Training and Awareness
One of the major responsibility of the Council is to provide training to stakeholders and the staff on radiation protection and nuclear security. The Council provides specialized training to its scientific staff through IAEA fellowships and training courses and new recruits are given on the job training as per training policy approved by the Board of Directors of the Council.
The Council conducts relevant training courses as per the training manual for operators and RPO's in Medical and Industrial sector. The Council also conducts awareness programmes for CBRNE units of Sri Lanka Army, Navy, Air force, and Police (STF) on radiological emergency preparedness and response and response to nuclear security events.
The training courses are focused on the following designations.
- Radiation Protection Officers (RPOs)
- Radioactive material transporters
- Physicists
- Radiographers
- Doctors who use radiation
- Nurses who use radiation
- Industrial uses of radioactive material and X-ray machines
The Council conducts awareness programmes on nuclear technology and radiation protection for school children and public during exhibitions conducted by the Government .
